Hello! So today is the first day of an experiment that I hope has value for someone. Including me. 🙂
I’m starting a journey to build an eCommerce business and decided to write a weekly journal/blog about the experience for all to see. I’ll try to keep these posts short and to-the-point, and brutally honest as I make my mistakes (I know there will be many!) and eventually as I also get some wins along the way.
About me: I’m 68, retired and spent most of my corporate career with Fortune 500 companies in technology as a software developer, business analyst, project manager and ultimately senior manager. I started my career as a CPA but quickly found I enjoyed solving problems with software more than analyzing financial data. My father was an entrepreneur though, and I’ve always thought that building your own business or the ‘work for yourself’ path was the better one for me but frankly I never had the conviction to pursue it with the necessary commitment and determination. Will I be successful? I guess we’ll see but I’m confident that I will succeed, I’m 100% committed to this path so … win or lose, we’ll see and I’ll honestly report my activities here.
My objective: Find something I can do in retirement that is profitable, scalable with good upside potential, that I can do from home or anywhere I want to travel to, that’s a business that provides legitimate value to my customer, that leverages my experience and interests (software development, analytics, SEO, affiliate marketing) and where the risk is reasonable. I don’t need the income but I love the ‘game’ of business so want to eventually turn this into a $20k/month profit business. If that takes a few years, so be it, but of course I expect to see growth and progress every month. So here goes….
